Hsipaw (Burmese: ; also known as Thibaw), is a the principal town of Hsipaw Township in Shan State, Myanmar on the riverbank of Duthawadi River. It is 200 km (124 mi) northeast of Mandalay. Hsipaw State was perhaps one of the most well known and powerful saopha Shan States. It has a wonderful market and the surrounding area boasts some of the best walking routes in the country. Trek through unworldly picturesque countryside and enjoy the hospitality of the Palaung and Shan, staying overnight with host families in remote villages.
