When to go to Myanmar?

The ideal time to visit is during the dry season, which falls between November and May. The weather can be very warm during March and May. Temperature can reach up to 37°C in the afternoon during the summer season (April, May).

Thingyan is the Burmese New Year Water Festival which normally occurs around mid-April. It takes place over a period of four to five days. Some travelers love to experience Burmese New Year festival in the warm weather.

Do I need a visa to travel to Burma?

What currency do you use in Myanmar? What is the current exchange rate like?

The local currency used is called Kyat (pronounced “chat”, abbreviated as Ks). The currency exchange rate is around 900 Kyats against the US Dollar.

Do I need to learn the local language?

It isn’t necessary as many people speak English but it might be fun for you to learn a bit of the language in advance. Being able to say “hello,” “goodbye,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” will go a long way. Lonely Planet has a handy phrasebook that you can pick up.

Is there internet service in Myanmar?

Yes there is internet at most of the hotels but the speed can be slow. If you have a laptop and want to tap in to WiFi, it can available.

During travel in Burma, can we be able to use credit cards? If so, what types of credits are commonly accepted? If not, what types of currencies should we bring?

Currently, credit cards are not generally accepted in Burma. We advise you to bring enough US Dollars for your travel, accommodation, shopping and dining expenses. Some travel agencies and hotels may accept but it is best to check with them before you come.
